MotionPath

I created a MotionPath using PowerPoint. This was a fun activity. I chose to do basketball and make it geared for elementary students. This can me used to show the motion of a pass, dribble, or shot. Before this assignment, I had absolutely no idea that you could do this in PowerPoint. I used to think of myself as a computer geek because I knew a lot about them, but apparently I don't know as much as I thought!

According to the ISTE NETS T standards, the MotionPath assignment relates to many of these standards. It relates to standard #1 by promoting creative thinking using technology. Standard #2 reflects how students can use this as a different type of assessment. Students could also work in pairs, which means they would collaborate together while using technology, this applies to standard number three.

Labels

I created a PowerPoint slide for the Labels assignment. I chose to do the bones in the hand for teaching anatomy in my Physical Education and Health classes. This is great tool to use for review or a test/quiz.

This was a frustrating activity for me. I started using the PowerPoint version for 2003 and realized that I needed to use the 2007 version to make my life easier.

According to the ISTE NETS T standards, this activity would relate to standard #1 because the students can explore creativity with this assignment. I think it would be a great tool to use in the classroom!!

Ignite

Ignite is a great way to show a presentation without someone speaking during it. Therefore, creating this PowerPoint presentation was more difficult that I had expected. I was nervous that I didn't have enough information, but at the same time nervous that I had too much.

Growing up, we were always taught to put as little as possible into our PowerPoint slides. Then again, I was always giving a presentation while the slides were up. It is great to learn new ways to do things.

To upload my PowerPoint to the internet I used SlideShare. I created my PowerPoint on a lesson I would teach in the gymnasium on the first couple days of school. Also, I have been asked to be our Wellness Coordinator at school, so this would also be a great, short presentation for the faculty and parents to see.

This activity would be a great one for students to do. As with the regular PowerPoint presentation, this would be a great assessment for the students. In the field of Physical Education, students are missing class for various reasons and it is hard to come up with ideas for them to make it up without taking class time away. The best part also about this activity is students in grades 4th and 5th can do this. Now it may not be as advanced, but they are still capable of completing this assignment. This assignment will also eliminate them bringing in an external drive. They will be able to post it to the web and give us the web address to view it! AWESOME!!

I think that this activity is similar to the PowerPoint, so the same standards apply. By having the students do this, it will relate to the ISTE NETS T standards. Standard #1 applies because the students will have the opportunity to be creative while completing a class assignment. Also relates to standard #2 because we are giving the students an opportunity for a different type of assessment. Standard #3 also relates because students will be communicating their thoughts via PowerPoint.

This is a harder activity but still enjoyable!

PowerPoint

Creating this PowerPoint presentation was fun, but a very time-consuming task. To upload my PowerPoint to the internet I used SlideShare. I created my PowerPoint on a lesson I would teach in the health classroom. Actually, I did teach this lesson, but not like this. I really like this PowerPoint presentation much better!!

This activity would be a great one for students to do. Especially in my field. For students who miss class 6 or more days due to injuries, they are required to create a PowerPoint. They must have one slide for each day missed, in order to receive the grades they lost while sitting out. It must also be related to P.E. or Health. The students then bring in their disc or zip drive and we grade them. This will eliminate them bringing in an external drive. They will be able to post it to the web and give us the web address to view it! AWESOME!!

By having the students do this, it will relate to the ISTE NETS T standards. Especially standard #1 because the students will have the opportunity to be creative while completing a class assignment. Also relates to standard #2 because we are giving the students an opportunity for a different type of assessment. Standard #3 also relates because students will be communicating their thoughts via PowerPoint!!

What a great activity!

Jing Screencast

I used Screencast to create a tutorial on how to set up an account using Blogger. Here is my screencast. It was a lot easier to create than I had originally suspected. Once you have created the video that you want to post, you just simply click on the share button at the bottom of the screen.

You must use Jing to create your screencast. Jing is tool that is set up on your desktop and it found all the way at the top (it's a yellow sun). It allows to capture anything on your computer. For example, the video I created has a captured image of a word document as well as Mozilla Firefox. You can also click on the Jing icon to retrieve all of your history. You may also use Screencast to retrieve your history.

Looking at the ISTE NETS T standards, I would have to say that this activity relates to almost all the standards. The first standard is about using creativity to understand a student's reflection about a concept. A teacher could assign this project after teaching multiple things and it is the student's responsibility to teach it to the class. The 2nd standard is about creating an activity that can relate to different styles of learning. Students can express their learning in different ways using this activity. By doing this activity, students are demonstrating that they are able to communicate information using technology, which is the 3rd standard. Students will also have interaction using technology which is part of standard number four. The fifth standard discusses the leadership involved with using technology. If the students are teaching other students using this tool then they are using leadership skills and incorporating technology.

This is a wonderful tool to use in the classroom!

Jing Graphic

If you would like to see a larger version of my Jing Graphic, please click here. This Jing Graphic was created because I am a Physical Education teacher and softball coach. At the high school level, we teach the students the fundamentals of most team sports. Bunting is a key fundamental skill in baseball and softball. If a team has players that can bunt correctly then that is a huge offensive weapon. In the image, I pointed out the key basics to bunting.

The Jing Graphic is a great tool that can be used in any classroom. Every student can benefit from a visual presentation. It is also fairly easy to create a graphic. The tools located in this tool were easy to find and use. The best part about it is that the file is saved as a PNG and can be saved to your hard drive or a removable storage device. Actually it gets even better.. your project is saved in Jing History so you will always have it!!! If you ever need it again, all you have to do it upload it from one of the above sources! Cool.. I know. Overall, I enjoyed creating this graphic.

Looking at the ISTE NETS T standards, I would say that this assignment related to standard #3 because we would be modeling this to our students. I think it would be a great idea to have students create something like this in the classroom. If a teacher would choose to do that then it would relate to standard #1 because the students would be able explore their creativity using a new technology tool.

Google Draw Tool

Here is an enlarged version of my drawing. I used Google Docs to create it. This was a neat activity to complete. I sell Premier Jewelry aside from teaching, so I am constantly using tools to create invitations or announcements. Google Draw Tool is very easy to use and understand. Anyone can add their own picture to their drawing (which is what I did) or insert a shape (also what I did). It is easy to add text and change the color or size of the text. A simple click on the mouse allowed me to publish this to web.

This could be a great tool for in the classroom. Students would be able to create a drawing and then post it to the web so everyone in the classroom had access to it. The part about publishing things to the web is that it will always be there. I have saved items to a zip drive and then lost them due to a virus. Posting items to the web prevents this problem!

Looking at the ISTE NETS T standards, creating a drawing refers to standard #1. It allows students to explore their creativity using technology. Students can also use this tool as a reflection of their understanding of the current content. If the students post their drawing to the web then that would fall under standards #4 and #5. As stated before, it is a great tool to use in the classroom!!

Self Assessment

I just finished my self-assessment survey. Unfortunately, I had to go back and change some things whether it meant adding, removing etc. =(

I hope everyone else completed their blogs correctly, because it is time-consuming to go back and change everything! I feel like I have changed all my blogs to meet his standards, but it still isn't enough. Not really sure why I feel this way, but I feel like even my best doesn't meet his standards. Does anyone else feel like this?

It makes sense to complete this survey. It addresses standard #5 of the ISTE NETS T standards. We are taking time to evaluate our work up until this point. This survey can be a great tool in the classroom. The students would be able to evaluate themselves to better understand their progress in the classroom.

Glogster

A glog is a really neat way to create a poster. It allows you to add video and sound to your poster, as well as pictures and text. The neat thing about all of these options is you can make your own to upload or you can choose from its gallery.

You have the opportunity to create your own glog, just click and start creating!

A glog would be a great tool to use in the classroom. After teaching a lesson, a teacher could make a student create a glog based on their knowledge of what they have learned. Or a teacher could create this assignment as a pre-test for the students before teaching the content. Also, maybe the teacher is half-way through the content and wants to know how the students feel about this topic, they can create a glog! The possibilities are endless!!!

I actually believe that there are three standards from the ISTE NETS T that correspond with this lesson. By using a glog, we are promoting and supporting our creativity with technology. As stated before, it is a create tool to use to understand a student's conceptual understanding. It is also a use of emerging digital tools. Teachers can create their lesson to adapt to the uses of glogs.

The only thing that I found disturbing about the glog, and I don't think it is a problem, is you have to find out by trial and error. There isn't anything on the website (at least I couldn't find anything) that told you how to do things. In a way it is a good thing, because you are teaching yourself something. However, it can be very frustrating also! Overall, I enjoyed creating a glog!

My Self Portrait

Original

Aren't I beautiful?! LOL This was another fun activity. I chose big, red lips because that is exactly what I have. Also, if you noticed, I used the eye brows to create earrings for my eyes. I did that because aside from teaching, I also sell Premier Jewelry! I tried to match my eye and hair color as best possible.

You should make your own self portrait too, try it Picasso Head

It was fun being able to use different shapes to create different things in the picture. The only problem I really came across was trying to change the color after I added something different to the face. At times it wouldn't sense what object I wanted to change the color of. Other than that it was great!!

ENJOY!!

This activity related standard #5 of the ISTE NETS T standards. We are using an application in technology that will promote student learning in our classroom. We can use the Picasso Head as a tool for students to collaborate about the information they are currently learning.

Learning Styles

Yay!! I used the snipping tool again!! I figured it would be easier for everyone to see my results as I did rather than typing them in a sentence. According to my results, I am a multimodal learner. This really isn't a surprise to me. I learn better by someone showing me what I need to do. Also, I would rather give verbal directions, interesting huh?!

Most of the students I have in high school are visual learners, some kinesthetic. At the beginning of every year my students complete a survey similar to this one. However, they can determine their style of learning based on their answers and use a chart to color in learning style. It is a great tool for me to use through out the year!

If you want to know what your learning style is take the survey yourself!

I think it is interesting to learn that most people are multimodal learners. I must say though that I agree with that. A lot of my answers depended on what was being learned. For example, when it comes to giving directions, I would rather just say them to someone. However, in the classroom I need to see the concept before I can learn it. Some people may learn numbers by hearing them in a sequence, but can't complete an addition problem without seeing it demonstrated first. Each student learns different, it is because all of us are multimodal learners with an emphasis in different styles.

This activity relates to the #4 standard of ISTE NETS T standards. We are collaborating with each other about our learning styles. Learning styles are so vital in the classroom. We need to do an activity like this to address all the different learning styles that we may encounter in the classroom.

Snipping Tool

Here is my image. I chose this to show how I learned to add a subscription using Google Reader.

There are so many things that we are learning that we can use in our classroom to assist our students' learning. It is just amazing to me. The snipping tool is a great tool to emphasize something to students.

The snipping tool is related to standard #4 of the ISTE NETS T standards. We are taking information that we know about technology and creating a clip art to better explain the information to someone else. This is a learning strategy that is suitable for all learners.

I knew someone that had taken this class over a year ago and he would always talk about how much he enjoyed it! After the first week of this course, I was frustrated. However, now I absolutely love this class!!!

VoiceThread

This was an awesome activity! I am not going to lie, I was a little bit nervous in the beginning. I liked this activity so much that I would like to integrate into my classroom, either Health or Dance. We had to post our VoiceThread to the Who Are You group conversation. You can always create your own signing up at HERE!

It is just amazing to me how much technology has changed in the last 3 years!!! By using VoiceThread, people from all of the world can connect to other people without leaving their home. A friend of mine study abroad for a semester in college and I wish I would have known about this, because we could have kept in contact!! Wow, this would be awesome to use in a history class. Just put a famous person's picture up and talk about that person as if you were them!! Just AWESOME!!

While looking at the International Society for Technology in Education, I noticed there are a couple of standards that I would consider that match. The one that I really think matches is number 3, Model Digital-Age Work and Learning. I feel as though completing this task has allowed me to demonstrate fluency in technology by transferring current knowledge to new situations. Also, as a class, we are all collaborating with each other and learning abut each person.

I really did LOVE this activity!

Google Reader

here is my google reader address

Always Learning

Sup Teach?

I picked two different sites to subscribe to and follow. Both of these sites came from the lists of blogs Dr. Pierce put in the assignment description.

Both of these sites are very informational. The first blog is focused around technology which is great for me!! I enjoy learning new things and look forward to use Google Reader to learn more about technology. The next site is kind of a "pick me up" for teachers. There are several people who post blogs on this website. They are all experiences that they have been through or something that will make teachers smile and remember why we became teachers in the beginning. Sometimes life becomes overwhelming in the teachers' world, so it is an amazing concept to have a blog like this that I can follow! It makes me very very happy!! =)

I also added a link to the left of my page so you can see what I am following as well! =)

This activity relates to standard #4 of the ISTE NETS T standards, as we are showing each other the activities we are reading. It allows us to show our cultural understanding as we share with our peers the things that we enjoy reading and learning about.

Google Docs

My Resume

I have successfully created and posted my resume by using Google Docs.

I created this resume as if I was using it to apply for another teaching job for the upcoming school year. Of course with Berkeley County, there is an online application so it has been a while since I have created a resume such as this one. Enjoy =)

This resume activity is related to standard #3 of the ISTE NETS T standards. We are creating a document that is not paper. This document is posted on the internet for the world to see. It allows us to communicate and collaborate with multiple people about our work.
